Bulk Gmail cleanup — safely

Bulk cleanup is the only realistic way to tackle 10,000+ unread messages. The risk is bulk mistakes.

Start here: Run preview with Apply OFF before deleting or labeling anything in Gmail.

Inbox Maid lets you process mail in batches while keeping a hard separation between preview (read-only) and apply (modify with confirmation).

Batch sizes that work

  • First run: 25 messages — calibrate suggestions against your expectations.
  • Confident runs: 50–100 messages — faster progress with periodic review.
  • Large backlogs: repeat previews on date ranges until current.

Review checklist before apply

  1. Scan all Trash candidates — any false positives?
  2. Check "review" bucket for edge cases.
  3. Confirm label suggestions match your organization scheme.
  4. Apply one batch; verify in Gmail before the next.

Undo and recovery

Trash moves go to Gmail Trash — not permanent delete. Inbox Maid also supports restoring the most recent applied run from Run History when rollback metadata is available. See FAQ for details.
